PBR Ontario Spotlight Game: Toronto Cardinals 16U vs Brampton Royals 16U

WHITBY- On a beautiful Friday night at Portage Park, the Toronto Cardinals 16U and Brampton Royals 16U faced one another in their first game at the Elite Baseball League of Ontario Showcase Tournament. It was a battle to the last out, as the Royals came out on top with a 9-6 victory.

Infielder Antonio Valerio had a great day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs. The right-handed hitter drove the ball with authority to the left-centre field gap, both for doubles on the night. He was named Player of the Game.

The Royals showed great patience at the plate in the third by drawing three walks, which led to them putting up a three spot in the inning.

Royals RHP Dyllan Rosart started for his club and came out firing by retiring the first seven batters he faced including three strikeouts. His fastball worked both sides of the plate and showed a very good changeup down in the zone to keep the Cardinals batters off-balance.

Rosart went 3.2 innings allowing two runs on one hit, with three strikeouts while walking three.

The Cardinals, like their opponent in the 4th, showed patience against Rosart and started laying off close pitches, which lead to three walks and two runs, including an RBI single from infielder Mitchell Graham to centre field.

Royals’ right-handed pitcher Aidan Murphy came in with the bases loaded and two out in the 4th and ended the inning with a quick fly out to centre. He finished going 2, 1/3 innings allowing one run on one hit, walking only one batter while striking out three and picked up the win.

Right-hander Wing Tse took the mound for the Cardinals going 3.2 innings allowing six runs on 5 hits, four walks while striking out two.
