PBR Ontario Spotlight Game: West Toronto 17U vs Oshawa

MISSISSAUGA- On the opening day of the EBLO tournament the West Toronto Wildcats squared off against the Oshawa Legionaires in a game that was a close nail-biter until the Wildcats broke it wide open in the seventh inning on their way to a 7-2 victory.

Led by an incredible display of pitching by righty Ian Godfrey, the Wildcats put up three early runs in the first two innings and would never relinquish their lead thereafter. Godfrey only allowed two runs in his five innings of work while striking out seven batters, ending his day by striking out the side in the fifth.

Offensively, the Wildcats were led by outfielder Cameron MacPherson who led the game off with a towering double to the left field wall and would go onto score the first run of the ball game, going on to finish his day 2-for-3 at the plate.

The game itself was close throughout until Andrew Laver hit a big two-run double to put the Legionaires away.

That proved to be all that hard-throwing reliever James Mienkowski needed to shut the door despite the two extra runs the Wildcats tacked on after the double.

For the Legionaires, starter Brendan Robertson got off to a rough start, allowing three runs (one of which was earned) in the first two innings, but then settled in, retiring his last six batters, matching his counterpart Godfrey with seven strikeouts while going 5.2 innings.
