Westlake outlasted Avon seven to five in a rematch of last year’s district final championship game.  

The game featured another hard fought battle between neighboring school districts.  While the game was sloppy at times probably due to lack of early season outdoor repetitions, it also had some moments which showed that both of these teams will be important players come playoff time.

Westlake junior RHP Kent Axcell (2014) and Avon senior RHP Matt Wentz battled into the fifth inning before early season pitch counts got to both players. It was a see-saw battle in which Avon took the lead three times, only to have Westlake tie the game in the bottom of the inning twice, then finally take the lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by junior Thomas Keany.

Avon junior RHP Jonny Morales kept the game close in relief of Wentz while Westlake junior RHP Evan Davis got the win in relief of Axcell. 

Avon was led offensively by juniors Kevin Maloney (four hits and three RBI), Jonny Morales, Andrew Lee and Ian Long (two hits apiece).

Westlake was led by seniors Thomas Keany and Andrew Kettel, who each added two hits and two RBIs.
