PBR Spotlight Game: Detroit Western International vs Detroit King

DETROIT - Detroit Western International battled Detroit King in the Detroit Public School League Championship game at Wayne State University. Western has won the City league championship the past 7 years and today won its 8th consecutive title.

Unsigned senior right hand pitcher Amadeo Apolloni dominated on the hill for the Cowboys of Western. Apolloni threw a complete game 3-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Western struck first in the bottom of the 1st inning as 2016 Carlos Avina tripled off the left field wall. 2018 Logan Foster singled to score Avina taking an early 1-0 lead.

During the bottom of the 4th 2016 Enrique Sawicki drew an early walk and later scored as an errant throw on his 3rd base steal attempt flew to left field.

Western scored their final runs in the 6th inning. Unsigned senior Anthony Gutierrez tripled to right field and Apolloni walked. Both Gutierrez and Apolloni scored on an overthrown ball to 2nd base as Apolloni attempted to steal making it a 4-0 game.

Western International won their 8th straight Detroit Public School League Championship behind the strong pitching of Apolloni.
