ELYRIA - The Lakewood Rangers got a big conference victory yesterday 5-1 at Elyria Catholic.

Lakewood capitalized on its opportunities, Elyria Catholic's errors, and the arm of senior RHP Jameson Foran, who went six innings giving up one run on four hits and 2 walks.

Elyria Catholic 2014 LHP Joey Begany took a tough loss going four innings, giving up only two hits, but fourwalks coupled with Elyria Catholic errors gave Lakewood four unearned runs. Lakewood’s Alex Lavisky came in the seventh inning to close out the game on the mound for the Rangers.

The game was a tight, scoreless battle into the top of the fourth inning.

Elyria Catholic's Begany held Lakewood hitless until there were two outs in the fourth inning, when Lakewood took advantage of an error and three two out walks. RBI singles by catcher Joe Young and sophomore third baseman Benjamin Bulchik helped Lakewood take a 4-0 lead.

Lakewood’s Foran continued to cruise into the sixth inning giving up only three until that point.  Right fielder Sean Darmafall, batting in the three hole, scored the Panther’s only run in the bottom of the sixth after a lead-off walk and scoring on a fielder choice.

Offensively, Lakewood was led by Young’s two hits and run scored.

Elyria Catholic was paced by junior center fielder Angelo Cruz’s three hits.

Elyria plays John Marshall today while Lakewood has to wait until Monday for a big conference matchup with Midview.
