PBR Spotlight Game: No. 19 (DI) Midview narrowly beats North Ridgeville

By Chris Check
Regional Scout

Grafton, Ohio - Many fans as well as scouts travelled to Grafton to watch host Midview defeat North Ridgeville 1-0 behind pitching senior LHP Eric Lauer (Kent State recruit).

Junior Matt Feierabend kept the Rangers of North Ridgeville close giving up only five hits over six innings.  Throwing mostly off-speed pitches to the impatient Midview lineup, Feierabend only walked one while hitting one.

Midview got on the board in the bottom of the first when senior catcher Steven Frye drove in Cody Calloway from second with a single to left field.  Calloway started the two out rally with a single of his own and moved to second when Lauer was hit by a pitch.  Frye delivered three of Midview’s five hits on the day, including a double.

Lauer was the story the rest of the way, throwing fastballs and sliders in front of couple dozen guns held by professional scouts.

The tall lefty ran into trouble in the sixth when senior David Januzzi singled with one out, followed by a walk to senior Anthony Miranda.  The runners were stranded as Lauer bore down to strike out the next two hitters as well striking out the side in the seventh inning.

Lauer had 14 strikeouts on the day giving up two hits and walking one.

Midview moves on through the bracket to play Lakewood at The Pipeyard in Lorain.

It will be the third meeting of the year between these two teams, Midview having won the first two.

Lakewood moved on by defeating Elyria 13-3 yesterday.

Midview is now 19-6 on the year, while North Ridgeville finishes at 13-15.
