WAUSEON, OH - Ohio University commit Ty Suntken was dominant on the hill as No. 9 Wauseon (D-II) blanked No. 21 Bryan (D-II), 2-0 to claim their second straight Northwest Ohio Athletic League crown.

Suntken (pictured right) extended his scoreless streak Ty Suntken vs Bryanto 39 innings, as the righty has a 0.00 ERA this season.

The Indians capitalized on errors and erratic pitching in the first inning to score the only two runs in the game.

Suntken reached on an error to start the bottom of the first, scoring an unearned run on three wild pitches. After Suntken scored, Jacob Newlove walked, BGSU commit Axel Bueter singled and Shawnee State commit Clay Tefft walked to load the bases.

Another walk to JJ Kauffman plated Newlove to put Wauseon up 2-0.

Bryan's best chances to score came in the first and sixth.

In the first, talented sophomore Deylen Miley walk, moved up to second on a wild pitch and to third on a sacrifice bunt by junior catcher Derek Knisely.

However Suntken got out of the jam with a strikeout and pop out.

In the sixth, junior shortstop Nate Rau singled up the middle (his second hit of game) to start the frame. Ohio Northern commit Jordan Bostater roped a laser that Suntken got a glove on, turning a single into a fielder's choice. On the throw to first, Bostater went to second as the throw was wide.

Senior Austin Martin laced a ball that looked to be a single to right, however, Wauseon first baseman Newlove made a nice back-handed stop to record the second out of the inning. A fly out ended the threat.

Notable performances in the game:

  • Ty Suntken, the OU commit went the distance allowing just two hits, one walk, one HBP while striking out 10. The righty sat 87 mph with the fastball, reaching back and touching 89 a few times including the 10th strikeout of the game and last pitch of the game. Suntken also showcased a mid-to-upper 70s slider and spliter.Nate Rau vs Wauseon
  • Bailey Martin, the junior went the distance allowing two runs (both in 1st inning) on four hits, five walks and two HBPs while striking out four.
  • Nate Rau (pictured right), the junior shortstop had two singles while playing a good defensive shortstop.
