HUDSON, OHIO – Two of the top 50 teams in the state faced off as No. 31 Stow HS traveled to play No. 11 Hudson HS.

Hudson sent junior right-handed pitcher Nanak Saran while Stow countered with senior right-handed pitcher Nate McMaster.

The Hudson Explorers struck first. The second inning began with an error on the Stow shortstop, quickly followed by a beautifully executed sac bunt by senior designated-hitter Jono moved the runner to second base. Senior third baseman Tim Kennedy followed with a single to left field to deliver the RBI making it 1-0 in favor of Hudson.

Stow responded back in the fourth after Saran started the inning with two lead off walks

Looking to halt a Stow rally, Hudson turned to junior right-hander Kevin Zullo.

With two outs, Stow senior left-fielder KC Kolke laced a single to left field to give himself an RBI to make it a tie game at one a piece.

But, Hudson didn’t sit idle as they fought back in their half of the fourth inning.

Chafe singled to right field with one out. After a sacrifice bunt by Kennedy moved Chafe into scoring position, Zullo helped his own cause by singling over the second baseman’s head to deliver the final blow and what turned out to be the winning RBI to make it a 2-1 Hudson lead.

Kevin Zullo earned the win for Hudson going four innings allowing only two hits, four strikeouts, three walks, while allowing zero runs.

Stow’s Nate McMaster was the hard luck loser throwing a complete game while giving up two runs on four hits, striking out two, and walking zero batters.
