CLEVELAND, OH - Walsh Jesuit rebounded from a tough late inning loss to traditional rival St. Ignatius to take a hard earned 3-2 victory over Toledo St. John on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Lake County Captains Stadium.

Walsh senior Mark Mittiga squared off on the mound against St. John senior Ben  Brossia.

Sophomore second baseman Devon Garcia started the St. John’s offense with a double down the left field line to lead off the bottom of the first. After sacrifice bunt and a hit batsman, St. John’s went on top with an RBI single.

The Warriors of Walsh responded in the top of the second with a run after sophomore Azim Qadri singled and scored on an RBI single by fellow sophomore Dominic Mittiga.

Later in the fourth inning, Dominic Mittiga drove in the tying and winning runs with a two-run double.

Freshman phenom Chris Machamar was the story the rest of the game shutting down St. Johns offense the last 2 and 2/3 innings.  After inheriting a runner on third with one out after Connor Scott doubled and was sacrificed to third, Machamar struck out the first batter he faced and proceed to induce a fly ball to left to end the inning.

The freshman then used his fastball to finish the game, earning the save. Senior Mark Mittiga got the win.

Garcia, Connor and Jimmy Scott led St. Johns offensively with two hits apiece.

Walsh sophomores Qadri and Mittiga led the efficient Walsh offense with two hits apiece also. Mittiga got all three of Walsh’s RBIs.
