NEWARK, OHIO -- No. 7 (DIV) Newark Catholic (13-6) gets stellar pitching against a young Licking Valley team (15-7).

Two strong arms took the mound for this conference match-up.  Newark Catholic sent out Ashland University commit Mitch Cox, and Licking Valley had sophomore southpaw Drew Morrison take the hill.

Licking Valley had a rough defensive inning in the top of the 1st, letting the first two hitters on by error. Drew Morrison walked Ryan Fitzgerald to load the bases, and balked home the first run of the game. Newark Catholic didn't stop their in the top half of the 1st. Chacye Crouch stroked a backside single scoring two more runs for the Green-Wave. After giving up three quick runs, Licking Valley pitcher Drew Morrison settled in.

The Licking Valley lineup had multiple scoring chances, but could not get that clutch hit with two outs.

In the 5th inning, Newark Catholic added a little insurance.  The Green-Wave scored on a well executed 1st-3rd play, and scored a second run when designated hitter Mitch Green hit an RBI single to stretch the lead to 5-0.

Newark Catholic pitcher Mitch Cox looked strong the entire game keeping the Licking Valley hitters off balance.  Cox recorded the win in a complete game shutout.
