PBR Spotlight Game: No. 8 Waynesville (D-III) beats No. 19 Madison (D-III)

HAMLER, OH - With SWBL title hopes on the line, the Waynesville Spartans (16-3, 9-1) beat the Madison Mohawks (11-4, 8-3) 10-2. The win set up a game Wednesday night at home for the Spartans against the Carlisle Indians for the league title. 

Waynesville got the action started in the second with hits by junior catcher Jeremiah Stilwell, junior third baseman Andrew Magoto and sophomore first baseman Logan Fruhwirth to load the bases. The first run of the game came on an RBI groundout by sophomore Isaiah Bauer. 

The Spartans added on to their total in the top of the third as junior shortstop Troy Black reached on a fielders choice, which was followed up by a hit by pitch to senior pitcher and Tiffin recruit Wyatt Myers. Jeremiah Stilwell once again stepped up for Waynesville with an RBI single to left center field and give the Spartans a 2-0 lead. 

Mohawks responded in the bottom of third as sophomore outfielder Stephen Melton led the inning off with a double down the left field line and sophomore shortstop KC Lindon singled and stole second to give the Mohawks runners on second and third an no outs. Junior Brad Malott laid down a perfect suicide squeeze to cut the lead to one and with two outs senior catcher Saige Micomonaco doubled in Lindon to tie the game at two a piece. 

The game remained tied until the fifth when Black singled and scored on a RBI single by Magoto. In the sixth, the Spartans added another run as Black hit an RBI double to give Waynesville a 4-2 lead.

In the seventh Waynesville exploded, scoring six runs on six hits and a commanding 10-2 lead. 

Waynesville was led by juniors Troy Black (4-5, 3 R and 3 RBI) and Jeremiah Stilwell (3-4, BB, 2 RS) and senior pitcher Wyatt Myers who threw a complete game to get his fourth win of the season against only one loss. 

Madison was led by senior Saige Micomonaco (3-3, 2B and RBI) and sophomore KC Lindon (3-3, BB, RS, SB) who combined for six of the Mohawks nine hits.
