PBR Spotlight Game: PK Prospects vs Midland Berryhill

It was a rematch of the maroon final of the Ultimate Strikezone at CMU last weekend, in which Berryhill won 7-5 in 8 innings.

It appeared that Berryhill might take this game as well, as they took control of the game early with 2 runs in the bottom of the first. The first 3 hitters reached which included an RBI triple by Delta CC commit Jordan Dopp.

Berryhill led 3-0 when PK got on the board with a solo home run from Northwood commit Danny Michalak making it 3-1 Berryhill through 4 innings. Aside from the home run Berryhill starter and Iowa Western Freshman Alex Sova was pretty dominant.

Berryhill attempted to break the game open by getting to PK starter and Jackson College commit Adam Freiman in the fifth. Three straight singles, followed by Dopp's second extra base hit of the game led to 3 runs and gave Berryhill a 6-1 lead through 5 innings.

PK was not about to go away quietly with the top seed in the pool on the line. Hope College commit Nick Lepore led off the 6th with his second single of the day, which started a rally that led to 3 PK runs. Berryhill went 3 up 3 down in the bottom of the 6th but still led 6-4 heading to the 7th.

After a 1 out error and HBP the big hit for PK came off the bat of Freiman with a 2 run triple to right center tying  the game at 6. After a Berryhill pitching change Hillsdale commit Chris Stewart hit a sac fly to right field giving PK a 7-6 lead. Marygrove College commit Michael Battista came out for his 2nd inning of work and closed out the victory for PK.
