Middletown, OH-  Greater Miami Conference No. 15 seed MIddletown Middies (12-15) hosted Eastern Cincinnati Conference No. 19 seed Turpin in the first round of Ohio's tournament play.

The Spartans (12-14) produced the only upset in todays playoff action in Greater Cincinnati with a 7-0 in victory over the Middies.

Turpin’s senior lefty Ryan Flynn (5-3) was masterful on the mound limiting Middletown’s potent offense to just two hits while striking out four batters and walking one. Flynn showed command of curveball that tied up batters all day. His fastball topped out at 78 mph.

Flynn benefited from Turpin’s superb defense, which didn’t allow a Middie batter further than second base.

Middletown’s Andrew Burton (6-2 ) took the loss going 6 and 1/3 inning allowing seven runs on 11 hits while striking out two.

On this occasion, Burton didn’t show the same stuff that has helped him put together a successful junior campaign. l

Turpin unsigned senior first baseman Conner Zimmerman went 4 for 4 with 4 RBI.
Other Turpin hitters of note were unsigned senior outfielder Booby Calder who went 2 for 4 reaching base and scoring three times. Junior third baseman Derek Varner went 2 for 4 and scored once.

Turpin first year Head Coach Adam Nemo got his first playoff win remarking, “This was a great win for a young team, our seniors really came to play today.”

Nemo added, “Flynn pitched a great game for us, finally getting some run support.”
In Flynn’s 3 losses this year, Turpin’s offense produce only one run.

No. 19 seeded Turpin (12-14) travels to No. 11 seeded Elder Thursday for a 5:00 pm game in Ohio’s second round of Playoff action.
