MADERIA, OHIO - Cincinnati Hills League rivals No. 9 (DIII) Madeira (16-5) and Wyoming (15-6) met for the second time this week.

Madeira took Monday’s matchup 5-4 scoring twice in the top of the 7th to take the lead.

Wednesday’s affair was just as exciting with Wyoming scoring late to capture a 6-4 victory.

Wyoming junior pitcher Michael Kelly (6-1) took the hill for the cowboys and pitched SIX strong innings allowing three runs while scattering seven hits.

Madeira junior pitcher Matt Ballweg was chased after only two innings giving up three runs on three hits walking two batters.

Senior Zach Jansen (Rend Lake recruit) came in relief in the third inning. Jansen sailed through his first three innings of work.

In the sixth inning, he ran into trouble. With the bases loaded, Jansen walked in the tying run, at which point he was relieved by senior Nate Bulman, who proceeded to give up the lead on a sharp single by Kelly.

Wyoming was led offensively sophomore shortstop Parker Chalmers who went 1-2 with 2 walks, a run scored and a RBI. Kelly aided his own cause with a 2-4 day at the plate, which included the go ahead RBI in the sixth inning.

Madeira’s senior outfielder Andrew Benintendi came into the game three hits shy of the Ohio state record for hits and began his quest for the record by launching a mammoth home run to right center field in the first inning. In the fourth inning, it looked like Benintendi would stroke another home rum but it was pulled in at the base of the wall in right center.

In the bottom of the seventh, Wyoming reliever Henry Moore got the first batter to fly out to right, but he proceeded to give up a single sandwiched by two walks to load the bases. Junior outfielder Josh Lowndes laid down a perfect bunt to score one.

After a pop up to senior catcher Mason Elam, Maderia senior outfielder Nate Bulman struck out looking on a called third strike to end the game with Benintendi on deck.
