PBR Spotlight game: No. 7 Hudson vs. Massillon Perry

Mathew Lee

In the 2nd game in Canton, the other DI semi-finals was between Massillon Perry with a record of 16-9 and No. 7 Hudson who was 24-2 coming in. Unlike the 1st game, this was a pitchers dual between two seniors, Jacob Flounders for Perry and Nate Andrasik for Hudson.

Still scoreless in the top of the 4th, senior Gary Lawrence led off with a single. Freshman Collin Guscoff then attempted to sacrifice but bunted the ball perfectly down the 1st base line for a single. A ground out to 2nd moved the runners and junior Kyle Kester lined a single to drive in both runners and put Perry up 2-0.

Trying to fight back in the bottom of the inning, sophomore Joey Cahill led off with a single that was followed by senior Duncan Moran’s single to put the runners on the corners with one out. Moran promptly stole 2nd but, a pop to shortstop was recorded for the 2nd out. Senior Will Stribrny then laced a single to left to score Cahill and Moran was coming to the plate when leftfielder, Josh Arrendale threw a bullet to gun him down at the plate. The score was 2-1.

The game ended with that very score of 2-1 as Flounders never got into trouble again. Other than the lone single in the 5th, he didn’t allow another runner to reach base. He was amazing pitching the complete game victory, only allowing the four singles, while issuing three walks and striking out two. This moved Flounder’s record to 7-1 and lowered his 2.37 ERA.

Perry will face Chardon tomorrow in the regional championship game that the winner will move on to Columbus.
