It was a historical day for Prep Baseball Report in South Carolina. The latest state to join the amatuer baseball scouting powerhouse hosted it’s first ever event on Tuesday in York, South Carolina on the campus of York Comprehensive High School. Over 50 players turned out to see what PBR is all about and took the field under a beautiful South Carolina summer sky in front of 17 scouts and PBR staff members to showcase their abilities.

Here are some quick hits from the event, in depth stats and analysis will be released later this week.

-> After the event Jake Hylinski (Clover, RHP, 2019) made a commitment to play baseball at Florence Darlington Tech. Hylinski is a durable 6-0, 185 RHP who located multiple offerings in the bottom half of the zone from the same arm slot and speed. FB 80-83 T84 with a slider/slurve offspeed pitch (BB 71-74) in a 10/4 slot. Control, secondary pitches, and mound presence suggest starter tendencies.

-> The night after a heavy rain the track was soft and heavy for the players running the 60. In these conditions anything under 7.35 was an impressive showing. On a day where no one was burning it up, Luke Wright (Chester, OF, 2020) laid down a 6.97. Wright, 5-11 160, is a left handed hitting outfielder who sprayed line drives to all fields. The younger brother of Jake Wright (Chester, OF, 2016, Coastal Carolina) baseball runs in his family. Arm strength from the outfield will improve with future player development.

Caleb Jones (Strom Thurmond, RHP, 2021)

One of the most intriguing younger prospects at the event. At 6-3, 180 projectability is clear. A clean take away and long whippy arm action produced easy 82-83 mph fastballs that topped out at 84. Currently, high ¾ arm slot with arm side life. Commanded the lower half of the zone with FB and CH. CH thrown with feel, fades to arm side with depth (+ secondary pitch at this time).

Jason English (Richland Northeast, 3B/OF, 2019)

Strong 6-0 215, thick through the lower half with present and future strength suggesting corner INF/corner OF . Drove balls gap to gap with natural loft in the bat path. Registered an exit velo of 93 that transferred into live BP with a home run and multiple balls hit to the wall. Stance and swing are compact and balanced throughout. Glove work & hands are firm and confident at 3rd. Positional velo 75 mph.

Holden Bunch (Camden, LHP, 2019)

Uber projectable LHP at 6-5 192. Length in lower half, arms, and hands. FB 80-81 T82 from a tall delivery and high ¾ slot. Loses some pitches arm side but adjustments were made pitch to pitch. BB with slurve tilt & depth thrown at 68 mph. At present CH is clear second pitch thrown with feel at 74. CH works back to the arm side with tailing action and fastball rotation and arm speed.

Luke Harris (Lewisville, C/3B, 2020)

6-2 185 frame, present frame suggests he can hold more weight through the lower half and into his broad/square shoulders. Workout suggests multiple paths to the next level. INF velo of 75 from 3rd with confident hands and raw but athletic lower half. OF velo of 80. Catcher pop-time 1.97, 2.03, 2.09, clean transfers and footwork produced throws that carried to the bag with ease. Compact swing at the plate with a low line drive bat path. Simple stride, barrel turn and lag, and quiet head make it easy for him to know where the barrel is on multiple offerings.
