Player Spotlight: Gallatin 2016 RHP/SS James Rockwell

By Doug Hall
Tennessee Director of Scouting

James Rockwell, RHP/SS, Gallatin HS, 2016

At 5-foot-10, 185-pounds, Rockwell has an athletic frame and possesses the tools necessary to play at the next level.  He features a mid 80’s fastball and tight spin on his curveball.  While Rockwell shows good command, he must continue to improve working his fastball on the inner part of the plate to hitters.

At the plate, Rockwell generates good bat speed and shows gap to gap power.  Defensively, he shows above average range with good arm strength.  His defensive skills still need some refinement, specifically moving to the backhand side and improving his footwork.  With two years of high school baseball left, Rockwell will continue to mature as he positions himself as a potential high-level college prospect.
