Portland Summer Open: Preview Story

Josh Schoenberg
Scouting and Operations Assistant

This Thursday, June 15th the PBR Oregon team is hosting the Portland Summer Open at the University of Portland. This is an open event for all high school classes (2024-27), and gives our staff an ample look at the area's top players.

For a closer look at the showcase details and the technologies we'll have on-site to assist our in-person evaluation for all in attendance, click here. For a complete look at those registered to attend this event, view the most up-to-date version of the roster by clicking here.

EVENT HISTORY

This is our second year hosting the event, and last year provided us a look at prominent players who've later gone on to receive invitations to select events, such as our Preseason All-State or our Top Prospect Games. Among the players in attendance at this event in 2022, there are already 4 commitments among them.

LHP Blake Crawford (West Linn) was a standout at this event last summer, solidifying himself as a premier southpaw in the state's 2024 class. He put together an excellent 'pen, foreshadowing a strong junior campaign that was capped off by his commitment to the University of Portland.

We're looking forward to checking in on the next crop of talent from this event to earn next-level attention in the coming weeks, months, and years.

2023 ROSTER

This year's roster is already shaping up nicely.

Thursday's roster will feature several prospects that are ranked in their respective classes, all of whom are still uncommitted. These include 1B/LHP Kayle Pisano (Clackamas, 2024), OF Brayden Buck (Tualatin, 2025), and RHP/OF Cole Sauter (Sunset, 2026).

Pisano is a physical 6-foot-3, 230-pounds with plenty of power, posting triple digit exit velocities in front of our staff in the past.

Kayle Pisano

Buck is an athletic left-handed hitting outfielder that impressed in his PBR debut at the Pacific Northwest Preseason ID.

Brayden Buck

Sauter is athletic with a strong lower half and clean arm action on the bump. In our previous looks, he has posted efficient spin metrics

Cole Sauter

Browsing the event roster, we’re set to meet plenty of players who’ve not yet attended a PBR showcase, and we’re eager to add more names to our follow lists.

EVENT CHECK-IN PROCESS

Because of the high number of prospects set to attend Tuesday’s event, it is imperative that you read our adjusted showcase itinerary below, which will allow our staff to swiftly and efficiently educate and evaluate the players set to attend.

Additionally, in an effort to continue and develop contactless check-in strategies, upon arrival, players will scan a QR Code with their smart phone camera that will lead them to a Google Form. On that Form, players will enter their name (matching the spelling on their PBR profile) and hit submit. Upon submission, players will be prompted to click a link that will direct them to their jersey color and number, located next to their registered name
