Pre Season Preview - Paranghat Valley Panthers

Buddy Gouldsmith
Nevada Scouting Director

In this edition we will take a closer look at the Pahranagat Valley Panthers.  The Panthers finished second in the state in 2018 and with six returning starters are apt to feel they have a chance to finish on top in 2019.  This is PBR Nevada’s first preview of a program in the 1A classification and one of two submissions at that level. Athletic Director and Head Coach, Brad Loveday has good reason to like their chances in the upcoming season and we expect that Panthers will be there in the end.

2019 Outlook: Although the classifications have changed in name and designation, the players remain the same. Pahranagat Valley and Indian Springs seem to go head to head, year in and year out. 2019 appears to be no different.  The Panthers return six starters from a club that finished second in the state a year ago.  Senior, Stockton Maxwell will play an important role in the expected success.  Maxwell should offer his playoff experience as well as be a staple in the lineup.  Junior, Preston Higbee had a standout 2018 campaign and will lend similar experience as well as be a consistent contributor to the Panther’s offensive attack. Underclassman, Jonathon Dillingham is one to keep an eye on.  The playing time he gained a year ago should provide him something to build from.

Coach Loveday feels strongly about the Panthers ability to play defense and score runs, something they have had success in the past with.  Pitching may be a bit of a concern for the Panthers, but their history tells us that though uncertain, Pahranagat Valley will develop from within and find the necessary pieces to compete at the top of their class.
