Pre Season Preview - Yerington Lions

Buddy Gouldsmith
Nevada Scouting Director

Coach Angle and the Yerington High School Lions have a lot to be excited about as they prepare for the 2019 season.  After losing in the 2A championship game last year, they have good reason to believe they can return and offer a different outcome.  Today, we take a look at our first 2A program as we continue our previews of high school programs around the state.

2019 Outlook: The Lions won 29 games during their 2018 campaign.  Their efforts culminated in a disappointing loss in the 2A championship game. Senior, Justin Olmstead, the 2A Northern Region Player of the Year returns to do double duty, playing both the infield and pitching.  He is joined by fellow 1st team All-State Selection, Trevor Evasovic.  Evasovic, like Olmstead, could see time at multiple positions, including helping out on the mound. Junior, Agustine Ramirez will pitch and play the outfield and will play an important role in the lineup.  This trio along with senior Nathaniel Landa provide a core for six returning starters, five of which pitch.  Coach Angle and his staff can expect to pitch and hit at a high level in the Northern Region 2A classification.

Defensively, the Lions will be looking to solidify the catching position without weakening other positions in the process.  The emphasis will be to handle the experienced pitching staff and could very well be the key to the success of their upcoming season.  They will be able to draw on the success of last season and their strong desire to win that last game.
