Pre-Season Preview: Schoolcraft HS

By Mike Penn
Michigan Director of Scouting

Schoolcraft HS comes into the 2013 campaign with high expectations. After finishing 2012 with an 18-12 record, Coach Jasiak has a talented and experienced group returning.

According to Coach Jasiak, "You are going to be hard pressed to find another team in the state in DIII with as much as experience as us. We have two four-year starters (Clark and Abel) and four three-year starters (Proksch, Cakmakci, Zemek and Leighton) and three two-year players (Bloomberg, Politowicz and Vaughn)."

The Eagles top seniors have all been offered college scholarships.  Benny Clark  will start in center. Clark, who has signed to play at Kellogg Community College, was an All-State performer in 2012 with 42 stolen bases.  Seniors Matt Abel (SS) and Matt Bloomberg (LHP) will help Clark lead.  Both players were All-District performers in 2012.  Bloomberg will be one to watch as he was 8-0 with a .64 ERA last season.

Caleb Proksch (1B), Nick Cakmakci (INF/RHP), Blake Zemek (C) and Brennan Vaughn (OF) are all top returning juniors that should have a major impact.

Rightfully, expectations are high for the 2013 Schoolcraft club.  The question will be can they knock off defending conference champion Kalamazoo Hackett?
