Pre-Summer Trials Middle Infield Analysis

In late May, PBR VA/DC hosted the Pre-Summer Trials at Virginia Sports Complex, featuring over 60 players from all corners of our coverage area. Over the next week, we will post the scouting reports on that event as we add them to each player's profile. We started with the pitchers, Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. Last week we continued with the outfielders, Part 1 and Part 2. Here are the middle infielders, in alphabetical order:

Thomas Aguila, 2B/3B, Fairfax, 2018
Hits from a balanced, athletic stance that stands square. Smooth load back with a short controlled stride. Decent lower half drive that stays balanced throughout swing. 74 MPH bat exit velocity. Short swing path that pulls off. Rhythm smooth at times. Throws from a quick, high three-quarters arm action with some accuracy. Positional velocity of 75 MPH. Average hands with clean footwork that was slow at times.

Christopher Allen, SS/2B, Kings Fork, 2018
Hits from an athletic, balanced stance that stood square. Strong frame. Slight load back with short, controlled stride. Bat exit velocity of 72 MPH. Level swing path that pulls off. Throws from a quick, high three-quarters arm slot with some accuracy. Positional velocity of 73 MPH. Average hands with clean footwork that worked through the ball.

Luke Belanger, SS/2B, West Potomac, 2017
Hits from a tall, balanced stance that stands open. Good rhythm. Slight load back with a toe to heel stride that gets back to square at times. Bat exit velocity of 84 MPH. Good approach to the round with a level swing path that stays through the ball. Line drive hitter with gap power. Throws from a loose, high three-quarters arm slot with accuracy. Arm has some life. Positional velocity of 85 MPH. Soft hands with clean, fluid footwork. Plays through the ball.

Brett Cook, 2B/SS, IMG Academy, 2019
Hits from a wide, balanced stance that stands slightly open. Slight load back. Toe to heel stride that gets back to square. Drifts to center. Explosive hands, bat exit velocity of 87 MPH. Level swing path that stays through the ball at times. Good approach to the round. Line drive hitter with gap power. Throws from a quick, high three-quarters arm slot. Positional velocity of 77 MPH. Soft hands with, quick clean footwork. Plays through the ball.

Mark Evans, SS/2B, York, 2018
Hits from balanced, athletic stance that stands slightly open. Toe to heel stride that does not gain ground. Slight arm bar. Violent, aggressive swing. Bat exit velocity of 90 MPH. Level swing path that stays through the ball. Line drive hitter with gap power. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with accuracy. Positional velocity of 79 MPH. Soft hands with quick, clean exchanges. Footwork plays through the ball.

Michael Fyvie, 2B/OF, Patriot, 2018
Hits from a balanced, athletic stance. Smooth load back with a slight leg kick stride that stays on line. Fluid rhythm throughout most of swing. Good balance throughout the swing. Bat exit velocity of 83 MPH. Level swing path that stays through at times  Line drive hitter. Throws from a loose, high three-quarters arm slot. Positional velocity of 76 MPH. Average hands with clean exchanges. Shows athleticism with his movements. Footwork plays through the ball.

Matthew Kane, SS/3B, Osbourn Park, 2018
Hits from an athletic, balanced stance that is slightly open. Smooth load back with short, balanced stride that gets back to square. Decent lower half drive. Bat exit velocity of 78 MPH. Good approach to the round. Slight arm bar with level swing path that stays through the ball. Line drive hitter. Throws from a loose, high three-quarters arm slot with some accuracy. Positional velocity of 81 MPH. Average hands with footwork that played through the ball.

Jarrett Mayer, SS/2B, Nansemond River, 2018
Hits from balanced, athletic stance that stands slightly open. Smooth load back with a leg kick stride that gets back to square and controlled. Good rhythm throughout swing. Decent lower half drive with a level swing path that gets through at times. Line drive hitter. Bat exit velocity of 81 MPH. Throws from a loose, high three-quarters arm slot with some accuracy. Positional velocity of 80 MPH. Soft hands with fluid footwork that plays through the ball. Athletic defender.

Connor Moriarty, SS/RHP, Albermarle, 2018
Hits from a balanced, athletic stance with posture leaned over. Slight load back with short, controlled stride. Maintains balance throughout swing. Slight arm bar with a long path at times. Bat exit velocity of 81 MPH. Line drive hitter. Throws from a long, loose high three-quarters arm slot. Average hands with stiff footwork. Positional velocity of 73 MPH.

Tanner Morris, SS, Miller School, 2017
Hits from a balanced, athletic stance that is slightly crouched. Slight load back with a toe to heel stride that stays on line and controlled. Explosive drive to the ball that maintains balance. Bat exit velocity of 89 MPH with wood. Advanced approach to the round.  Short, level swing path that stays through the ball. Line drive hitter with gap power.  Advanced hitter with hands that can spray the ball around the park. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot. Arm has life. Positional velocity of 88 MPH. Soft hands with quick, fluid footwork that plays through the ball. Athletic defender.

Timothy Stephan, 2B/RHP, Highland, 2017
Hits from a balanced, athletic stance that stands slightly open. Smooth load back with toe to heel stride that gets back on line. Explosive lower half. Bat exit velocity of 89 MPH. Explosive swing path that stays short and through the ball. Line drive hitter with gap power. Throws from a loose, high three-quarters arm slot with accuracy. Positional velocity of 83 MPH. Soft hands with quick, clean footwork. Good glove presentation with athletic movements.

Nathan Tuck, 2B/OF, Thomas Dale, 2018

Troy Turner, SS, Highland Springs, 2018
Hits from an athletic, balanced stance. Slight load back with short, controlled stride. Maintains balance throughout. Gap to gap approach with above average bat speed. Bat exit velocity of 80 MPH. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with some accuracy. Positional velocity of 75 MPH. Average hands with footwork that show athleticism. Footwork plays through the ball. Athletic defender that can cover ground.
