Preseason Preview: Alexandria HS

The Tigers of Alexandria High School finished the 2012 season with an 18-11 overall record and a 3-4 mark in the Central Indiana Conference (CIC). Coach Jeff Closser, in his fourth season as head coach, returns seven starters and four pitchers from last year’s team. 

Leading the way for the Tigers is Donnie Dinehart and his brother Derek. Donnie Dinehart was a 1st Team All-CIC selection after batting .400. Derek hit .354 and knocked in 17 runs as the starting third baseman. Sophomore Owen Young, who impressed as a freshman in 2012, will start at first base. Young is a rising underclassmen who hit .360 with 14 RBI’s last season. 

Other players expected to contribute for the Tigers are seniors Cory Allen and Jake Fox. Allen is an outfielder who hit .432 from the lead off spot in 2012. Fox hit .325 and stole 13 bases and will be the Tiger’s starting second baseman. Sophomore Drew Johnson will move in from the outfield to take over as the starting shortstop. Johnson was a .365 hitter last season. 

The Tigers will look to chase down defending CIC champion Eastbrook in 2013. The Central Indiana Conference will be very competitive with Mississinewa, Oak Hill, and Frankton all in the hunt for the title.
