Preseason Preview: Concord HS

Head Coach Jim Treadway and the Minutemen of Concord High School are looking to build off of a successful 2012 season. Coach Treadway guided the Concord to a 20-10 overall record and an 8-4 record in the Northern Lakes Conference (NLC), finishing just behind NLC champion Northridge. Expectations are high as eight starters return as well as four pitchers.

Leading the way is senior Cain Crowley, a Parkland College commit. Crowley is an outstanding athlete who hit .250 with two home runs and 19 RBI’s in 2012. Another standout expected to have a big season for Concord is junior Nick DeFreese. DeFreese, an All-NLC shortstop in 2012, batted .388 and knocked in 32 runs.

Coach Treadway’s lineup is full of experienced seniors including Taylor Miller (2B/OF), Matt Kotva (UTL), Dakota Simon (C), and Jake Stauffer (LHP). Miller is a talented player who accumulated a .363 batting average and an eye-popping nine triples last season. Kotva is as valuable in the field as he is at the plate where he hit .413. Simon is an all-around catcher who knocked in 30 runs to go along with his .307 average while handling the Minutemen pitching staff.

Also expected to make an impact in 2013 are juniors Duncan Boone (UTL), Stephan Pinarski (RHP/3B) who was up to 85 at PBR All State, Brenden Kirkendall (RHP), and Matt Williams (INF/RHP).

Concord will have to navigate through a tough NLC schedule to claim the 2013 title. Defending champion Northridge, Elkhart Memorial, and Goshen will all challenge Concord for the title.
