Preseason Preview: Westfield

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor – Wisconsin/Illinois

The Wisconsin high school season kicks off on March 31, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on March 23, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups. Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team.

If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

OUTLOOK

The Pioneers are coming off of a .500 season where they lost in the Regional Finals. Westfield’s strengths in 2015 will be the depth of returning players. Westfield is bring eight starters back from last year and four pitchers. Their pitching and defense should carry them in 2015, Coach Lewis should be strong up the middle of the field with Keegan Johnston behind the dish and Quade Jones, a speedster who covers a lot of ground in center field. Offensive output could be a question mark for Westfield, but if they hit they should improve on last year’s third place conference finish.
