With Conference play finally in full swing, most of the Commonwealth and District are settling into their standard Tuesday/Friday schedule, leaving a lighter slate of games tonight. A handful of games from the Peninsula and Chesapeake were postponed from yesterday to today, and there are a few interesting non-Conference games scheduled for this evening.

Millburn (NJ) at No. 9 Western Branch
The first game of Millburn’s three day visit to Chesapeake was rained out last night. This should be a good game as the Millers enter the game 2-1 with their only loss being to New Jersey powerhouse Seton Hall Prep. Western Branch has a tough matchup looming Friday with Hickory and that may factor into whether senior ace Corey Klak (Old Dominion) pitches.

Tabb at No. 10 Lafayette
Both teams were idle during their spring breaks as Tabb will travel to Lafayette as they begin their stretch runs. This game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, so both teams got an extra night’s rest courtesy of yesterday’s rain.

DeMatha at No. 13 Paul VI Catholic
Paul VI has started off this week hot, with an extra-inning win over No. 12 C.D. Hylton and a blowout win over McNamara. After Tuesday’s action, the Panthers are tied for second place in the WCAC, trailing Bishop O’Connell by one game as the look to pick up another conference win over a DeMatha team that is coming off of a tough loss to O’Connell Monday.

No. 15 Briar Woods at Yorktown
Briar Woods takes its three-game winning streak on the road for their second of three straight non-Conference matchups with 6A North schools. The Falcons beat Westfield handily last week. The Patriots enter the game coming off of a tough loss to Langley on Tuesday night, and have dropped five of their last six after starting 4-1. Yorktown does have a Liberty Conference 6 matchup with Fairfax scheduled for Friday while Briar Woods will take on Robinson in another non-conference game Thursday.

Indian River at No. 16 Hickory
This is another game that was postponed on Tuesday as Hickory will again try to play host to an Indian River squad that has been in every game it has played this year and has excelled at keeping offenses in check. Hickory’s offense is explosive, making this an interesting matchup of strength versus strength.

Amherst County at No. 17 Jefferson Forest
Jefferson Forest opens Conference 23 play by hosting Amherst County this evening. The Lancers dropped the only conference game they have played so far this season. This is a big game for both teams as conference newcomer Liberty Christian is already off to a 2-0 start as both Jefferson Forest and Amherst County look to keep pace with the Bulldogs early in the season.

T.C. Williams at No. 20 Loudoun Valley
Loudoun Valley’s offense has exploded in the two games since its first loss of the season to Potomac Falls as the Vikings have scored 31 runs combined in those two wins. T.C. Williams is coming off of a win over Mount Vernon on Tuesday, but the Titans will not have ace Andrew Tovsky (Elon) available to pitch after he threw a complete game in the win. Junior Stephan Gerade (Marymount) is available for T.C. and senior ace Justin Ager (Yale) is an option for Loudoun Valley, but both teams have conference games on Friday that may figure into their pitching decisions.
