Q & A with Ernie Clement SS (Brighton HS, NY)

Dan Cevette
New York Scouting Director

Name: Ernie Clement
High School: Brighton
Position: SS
College Commitment: UVA

PBR New York sat down with standout Ernie Clement for a little question and answer session.

PBR: How did you prepare for the 2014 season?

Clement: I prepared for the season by taking grounders and hitting once a week and then playing soccer and hockey for my high school to stay in shape.

PBR: Tell us how you landed with UVA?

Clement: I went to a camp at UVA in the beginning of my Jr. year and then was playing in a tournament down there and happened to play very well in front of the coaches. I was offered a scholarship and accepted.

PBR: What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player?

Clement: My strengths are I play very aggressive, my speed and quickness and range, and I rarely strike out. Weaknesses would be sometimes my discipline at the plate needs to be tightened up.

PBR: Do you have anyone or anything that influenced you to play baseball?

Clement: My dad always told me to just have fun and relax so I play with a smile on my face and just let the game come to me and never press too much. I try to just have fun always.

PBR: Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

Clement: I love to go fishing

Buzz On Clement:
Clement was left off our top middle infielders in the 2014 Class, it's a deep strong class but arguably he's right there in the mix. He has lightning quick hands and feet with a fast release. Works his arm slot from a low 3/4 but still puts something on the ball, very smooth actions. Would like to see him in a stronger arm slot in the hole and on routine plays a little more for control and strength. He moves laterally extremely well and will have no issues with the transition to high end D1 ball. At the plate he swings a strong quick bat (85mph exit) and shows balance and aggressive in the zone. Solid prospect.
