Q and A with 2013 Tiffin Commit: Ryan Vargo (Clearview HS)

Ryan Vargo, RHP, Clearview HS, Class of 2013

PBR: Why did you choose Tiffin?

Vargo: I really hit it off with Coach Wilkins right off the bat. The athletic facilities were also a big plus.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Vargo: I pretty much had it down to Tiffin, Lake Erie, and Marietta, but Baldwin-Wallace, Akron, and Bowling Green were also in the mix.

PBR: Where did Tiffin first see you compete?

Vargo: In the CABA world series. Coach Wilkins saw me throw at the PipeYard in Lorain, Ohio

PBR: Coach Wilkins is putting together quite an impressive recruiting class in just his first year at the helm as the Head Coach of the Dragons.  How does it feel to be a part of his first recruiting class?

Vargo: It feels great and I am really looking forward to working with Coach Wilkins next year.

PBR: This past summer you participated in PBR’s Top Prospect Showcase.  How did the event help you in your recruiting process?

Vargo: It was a great event with a lot of the top players in the state competing. I received a lot of contacts from doing this showcase.

PBR: What kind of role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Vargo: They expect me to make a big impact in the pitching staff and work my way into the starting rotation.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?.

Vargo: My Summer coach Tony Miller an ex-MLB player. He really showed me what it takes mentally and physically to become a great ball player and also coach Adrian Abrahamowicz on the pitching side.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience?

Vargo: The North Coast Vipers. Having an inside the park home run in my last at bat of the season.

PBR: What were your stats for this spring season at Clearview?

Vargo: I was 3-2 with a 3.13 era and 42 K’s in 31 2/3rd innings on the mound. At the plate I hit .415 with 22 RBI’s, 6 doubles, and 4 triples.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Vargo: Not one player sticks out, but the Ohio Force as a team had a very tough line up.
