Prep Baseball Report

Q and A with 2014 Ohio State Commit: Chad Roberts (Wilmington HS)

Chad Roberts, 3B/OF, Wilmington HS, Class of 2014

PBR: Why did you choose OSU?

Roberts: The coaching staff is great. I felt at home right away. There is so much talent in the upcoming recruiting classes. OSU has so much to offer their athletes and after seeing these resources I was astounded and knew that OSU would be the perfect fit for me.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Roberts: There were other schools that were interesting to me, however, Ohio State was my one and only.

PBR:  Where did the Coach Beals and the rest of the coaching staff first see you compete?

Roberts: Over this past summer I was fortunate enough to do a team camp up at their stadium over three days that they first saw me perform.

PBR: You are going in to your Junior season.  Why did you choose to make your decision so early?  Are you completely finished with the recruiting process or are you still open to other options?

Roberts: It's very relieving to make such a big decision so early and I like to be ahead of the game and I feel like this was a great decision. For the most part, I'd like to think that I am completely finished with the recruiting process.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

Roberts: I honestly didn't know what to expect. It's so surreal.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Roberts: There are so many people that have had an exponential impact on me as a baseball player. I think that my Dad is my biggest impact though. He's helped me by finding me the right connections and helped me be in the right place at the right time. He's a great guy.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

Roberts: I play for Jeff Keith and the Cincinnati Stix Elite. My most exciting experience playing summer ball would be when my team and I were playing a very good Ohio Heat team and were losing 3-0 in the bottom of seventh inning. We started to build a momentum and did everything right and ended up coming back and beating them by a run and I had a stretch this summer where I had 14 hits in a row.  Those were the most exciting moments for me.

PBR: What were your stats last season for Wilmington?

Roberts: .409 Average, .460 in league, 36 hits, 25 Rbi's,

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Ohio?

Roberts: I've faced a lot of talented pitchers. Zach Cook is one from our league that I thought was very good.
