Q and A with Michigan State Commit Hunter Smith (Perrysburg HS)

PBR: Why did you choose Michigan State?

Smith: I chose MSU because it was always a dream to play in a strong conference like the Big Ten. The campus has great facilities that
really help a player get to the next level. It is also only 2 hours away so my family and friends can come visit.

PBR: You had previously committed to Miami, why did you decide to change your decision?

Smith: Well, I feel as a player, I hadn't gone through the recruiting process enough. I wanted to check out more schools and it just happened to be my senior year. Having coaches out to watch you play every day was something I will never forget.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Smith: Miami (OH), Arizona State, Pepperdine, Toledo, Ohio State, Cincy

PBR: How did your relationship with MSU coaching staff help with your decision?

Smith: Coach Boss and Coach Sykes were wonderful to me. They came to my games and practices and that's something a lot of other coaches didn't do. They gave me an offer I couldn't turn down.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Smith: They expect my bat and speed to try and make a spot in the lineup possibly in the OF or DH.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what are some of the tournaments that you will be playing in?

Smith: I play for Underwood Orr and we will be taking trips to Notre Dame, UM, EMU, Akron, and Kent State. We will also be trying
to qualify for the Connie Mack Word Series.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Perrysburg?

Smith: .344 BA 31 hits 7 homeruns 25 RBIS 38 Runs 11 extra base hits 13-13 stolen bases

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?

Smith: Connor Ryan (Strongsville), Steve Duby (Maumee), and Nick Vespi (Eastwood).
