Q&A with Albion Commit: Erich Klingelhofer (Lake Orion HS)

By Mike Penn
Michigan Director of Scouting

PBR:  Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice?

Klingelhofer: I have decided to attend Albion College. I have decided this because out of all the other schools that I visited and considered, Albion was what felt right.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
Klingelhofer: I was considering Adrian College, Siena Heights University, as well as Northwood University.

PBR:  Was distance from home a factor in your decision?
Klingelhofer: Distance from home was not a factor for me. I knew that no matter how far away I went to school everybody would support me. It would be the same for me if I went out of state or if I went to school close to home.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Klingelhofer: The coaches first saw me at a showcase in Grosse Point. I was recovering from an arm injury at the showcase so most coaches didn’t notice me, but the Albion coaching staff did. Over the past few months my relationship with all of the coaches has gone well. They are all great leaders and want what is best for me.

PBR:  What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Klingelhofer: The coaches expect me to be a pitcher only my first year, as far as relieving or starting is unknown.

PBR:  What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help your team?
Klingelhofer: I feel that I keep the spark in the dugout and on the field. I’m a natural born competitor and cannot stand losing.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?
Klingelhofer: I play for the Michigan Red Sox in the summer. My most memorable experience from last summer was the first weekend that our team has together. The Red Sox organization has an academy at Adrian College the first weekend of June. We stay in the dorms at Adrian and practice and play almost nonstop for 3 days.
