Q&A with Huntington Commit, Mike Crowley, Chesterton HS

Mike CrowleyPBR: Why did you choose Huntington?

Crowley: I was very impressed with Huntington’s academic reputation, as well as their baseball program. Their baseball field is in an amazing setting surrounded by forest. The baseball team is one of the leading competitors in an elite NAIA conference. During my visits they expressed a lot of interest in me and I felt like this could be a good fit for me. During the recruiting process I developed a good relationship with the coaches. Coach Frame and some of the seniors helped me realize that Huntington has the environment that will help me grow as a player and a person

PBR: Where did Huntington first see you compete?

Crowley: Huntington first saw me perform at the Indiana Chargers showcase and also a tournament at Western Michigan University.

PBR: What other schools did you consider?

Crowley: Other schools that I was considering were Lincoln Trail, Vincennes, Wabash Valley, and Wabash College.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Crowley: Coach Frame expects me to contribute to the team right away and compete for the starting catching position.

PBR: Who do you play for during the summer, how did playing for them help you as a baseball player? What was your most memorable summer baseball moment?

Crowley: I played for the Indiana Chargers organization managed by Joel Mishler and Ben Bailey. They run a first class organization that prepared us to play at the next level. My summer coach Ryan Marken also helped with many aspects of baseball and life as well. I had a great time playing this summer with some of the best players in Indiana. We had great chemistry and camaraderie throughout the whole summer.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Crowley: The person that impacted me the most as a player would have to be my dad. He has always encouraged me throughout my life on and off the field.

PBR: Heading into your senior year at Chesterton what are your goals individually and as a team?

Crowley: Goals that I have placed for myself are to be the best player I can be one pitch at a time and also be a leader on and off the field. Our team goal is to win the very competitive Duneland Conference and a Sectional Championship as well.

PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?

Crowley: I am always trying to improve my speed.

PBR: Have you decided on a major, or narrowed it down?

Crowley: I have decided my major is going to be in the field of Business.
