Q&A with Unsigned Senior: Jonah Weisenberger, RHP, Sanford Meridian, 2013

Jonah Weisenberger, RHP, Sanford Meridian, 2013

Weisenberger is a 6-foot, 155-pound right-handed pitcher with room to grow.  With time and strength, his velocity should increase.  He does some whip in his arm action.   His breaking ball sweeps with a 11-5 break.  Recently Weisenberger has made some mechanical adjustments that have led to better command and higher strike percentages.

PBR: Where are you currently in the recruiting process?

Jonah: I have sent out personal profiles to several colleges and also communicated with some of the coaches. I am still open to any college that is interested in my athletic talents.

PBR: What level of baseball do you see yourself playing at the next level?

Jonah: With my work ethic and my potential to get bigger and stronger, I believe I am a solid Division II pitching prospect at the current time.

PBR: What schools are you most interested in right now, and why?

Jonah: Saginaw Valley, Alma College, Northwood University, Delta College, and Grand Valley. I have visited all of the campuses, talked to all the coaches, and really liked what the colleges and the baseball programs had to offer.

PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?

Jonah: I believe with weight lifting and my body maturing, my fastball will gain a minimum of another 5 mph.

PBR: As a player what is your greatest strength?

I have the ability to throw all four of my pitches for strikes and I'm not afraid to throw any one of my pitches at any given time. I am excellent at keeping hitters guessing on what pitch is coming next. I am even-tempered on the mound and never get frustrated in pressure situations.

PBR: How is your season going up to this point?

Jonah: During my 2012 high school season, I threw 2 no-hitters (Farwell and Carrolton), 2 one-hitters, had a 0.85 ERA, had a record of 10-4, and had 99 strikeouts. I was awarded First Team all Jack Pine Conference as a pitcher, was a First Team All-District pitcher, and was a Midland Area Dream Team pitcher.

While playing on Gladwin American Legion Post 171 this past summer, I posted a 5-3 record and led the team in innings pitched and strikeouts. My key victory was against the Central Michigan Stars, who were the Gabby Mills Tournament Runner-Up and the 2011 National Palomino Champions. It was a 3-0 victory with 6 strikeouts and 0 walks.

PBR: What are your high school team goals for the 2013 season?

Jonah: My high school team goals are to repeat as conference champions and win a district title and possibly more.

PBR: What are your current stats?

Jonah: My current high school career stats are a 18-6 record, a 0.71 ERA, and 156 strikeouts in 128 innings pitched.

PBR: What is your GPA? ACT or SAT score?

Jonah: My GPA is 3.98 on a 4.0 scale and my ACT score is 26.

PBR: Have you decided on a major or narrowed it down?

Jonah: I have not decided on a major quite yet. I am leaning towards engineering, a career in mathematics, or possibly even sports management.
