Recap of Mar. 6th 2015

Friday March 6th was a slow day for baseball throughout the state as we all tried to thaw out and shake winter for hopefully one last time. Here is a look at who played and how they did.

Ralph Gross Memorial Tournament, Nashville, AR

Nashville HS, defeated Horatio HS in the first game of the tournament, with a score of 6-2. The Scrappers received a strong pitching performance from Tyler Hanson who threw 5 innings allowing no earned runs and recording 5 strike outs. Offensively Nashville did a good job taking advantage of Horatio’s mistakes scoring 6 runs on 5 hits, 4 walks and 5 errors.  Nashville will advance to play Pine Bluff HS at 11:00 AM on Saturday Mar. 7th. Horatio will play Red Water HS (TX) in their next game.

Magnolia HS 12 Red Water HS (TX) 1. Magnolia was paced by Senior Zac Harrington, on the mound with 5 innings of solid work allowing 1 earned run, 4 hits and striking out 6. Offensively they were paced by Blake Hall who had 4 hits and 2 RBI’s. Magnolia’s offense exploded twice scoring 4 runs in the 4th and 7 runs in the 6th. The Panthers will advance to play No. 24 Star City at 1:15 PM on Saturday Mar. 7th, Red Water will play Horatio.

No. 1 Fayetteville HS  Heads South

Fayetteville High School was fortunate to avoid snow as they traveled to Prosper TX to play.

The Purple Dogs defeated Frisco Centennial HS 3-2 in game one of the double header. A strong pitching performance from senior RHP John Boushelle and timely hitting was enough for the victory.  Boushelle threw a complete game scattering 5 hits, allowing 1 earned run, while striking out 9. The scoring started in the 3rd down 1-0 when senior SS Drew Tyler hit a triple to left-center and later scored on a passed ball making the score 1-1. In the sixth they scratched out 2 runs with back to back doubles from Thomas Broyles and Cody Davenport. Davenport advanced to third on a passed ball and Grant Koch sealed the deal with a Sac Fly to right center.

In game two Fayetteville HS defeated Prosper HS with a score of 5-2. The Purple Dogs were fueled offensively by junior OF Thomas Broyles recording 3 hits, 2 RBI’s, scoring a run and senior C Grant Koch who drove in 3 runs in the 5th with a bases clearing double. On the mound senior RHP Andy Pagnozzi threw a complete game giving up 0 earned runs on 3 hits and striking out 6 to pick up the victory.

The Purple Dogs will be back in action Saturday Mar. 7th vs Denison HS and against Paris North HS.
