Regional Preview : 2A

Regionals start tomorrow for all classification 4A- and below. Here is a preview of some teams to watch in all of the 2A regional tournaments.

North Regional

Walnut Ridge High School should win this regional. They had a great regular season behind solid pitching, good defense and timely hitting. Until last week the Bobcats were on a 22 game win streak until losing to 4A Pocahontas. Their record up until this point is 26-3. A standout for Walnut Ridge this year has been Layne Ditto, pitching 56.6 innings with an ERA of 2.10, a record of 8-1 and 96 strike outs.

West Regional

2016 LHP/1B Jakob Henry, should be enough of an edge to put Conway Christian as the favorite to win the West Regional. Henry is 6-foot-4 Left-handed pitcher that pound the strike zone from a L ¾ arm slot with a fastball with late sink at 81-84 mph. Henry is a threat in the middle of the order for CCHS as well with just his raw athleticism and bat speed make him a formidable middle of the order hitter in this tournament.

East Regional

Ouachita High School should be the favorite to win this regional. They are led by 2015 LHP/OF Hunter McDade and MIF/RHP Logan Huneycutt. Both players are athletic with a well-rounded skill set. McCrory High School will have the best chance to knock them off, as Coach Campbell’s teams always play a sound fundamental game.

South Regional

Junction City High School is the defending regional champions and 2A State Champions. This year they have swept the conference and district title. I look for experience of winning to come through again this year with the Dragons winning the South Region. Conference rival Woodlawn HS could trip them up playing them two close games this spring. Woodlawn is a talented team with a mix of senior leadership and freshman talent.
