The event saw 19 players showcase their 60 times, exit velocities, home to first times, on field BP, defensive workouts, and 7 innings of live gameplay.

Corner INF Spotlights

ETHAN McLAIN (1B, Blacksburg, 2019)

6 foot 3, 200 pound first baseman with a physical frame and square shoulders. LHH with a slightly open stance, foot lands closed  at stride. Hands load back and slightly down to a position just off the back shoulder with high back elbow. Aggressive pull side swing path with loft, muscles the barrel through the zone.

JAKE LAFFIN (1B/OF, Lugoff-Elgin, 2019)

5 foot 11 with strong frame and advanced hit tool. Solid lower half, slightly open stance strides back to parallel. Lower body works through contact, stayed behind multiple pitches in driving balls to all fields with gap to gap power. Recorded exit velo of 87 mph. Flat bat angle at load produces loft through the zone. Fringe defender at first base also has the ability to play either corner OF position. 7.19 60 yd time.

TYLER PEARSON (3B/RHP, Westside, 2019)

Thick lower half and broad shoulders on a physical frame at 5 foot 10, 190 lbs. Confident hands, lower half worked through ground balls to help carry throws across the infield (76 INF Velo). Short swing with a direct path into the zone and a negative attack angle that is slightly cut-off at follow through. Present power is there with an 85 mph exit velocity. Worked from the stretch with a balance point at the belt. Lands balanced to slightly open with a short arm stroke. Consistently in the zone with a 76-78 mph fastball and a 62-65 mph curveball with 11/5 shape.

BLAKE COX (3B/RHP, Carolina Forest, 2019)

5 foot 10 3B with a compact frame. Showed a good mix of strength and athleticism. 7.15 60 time. Quick hands and a short arm stroke from 3rd. LHH with good separation, loaded the hands deep over the back foot. Produced good pop for his frame, exit velo 86 mph, translated into several balls to the wall in BP. Longer arm action on the mound led to 80-83 mph FB with good arm side life. SL with 10/4 shape landed for strikes.

LAWSON OTTE (1B/LHP, Indian Land, 2019)

5 foot 11 first baseman with a slender frame. Could also transition into an outfielder with future development. Handset just off the back shoulder with a toe tap loading mechanism. Inside/out swing path wants to drive the ball up the middle and to the opposite field, 72 mph exit velo recorded. Good running ability at present recording a 7.10 60 and a 4.31 home/first time. Solid defensive player at first base with confident footwork around the bag and skillful hands able to handle errant throws. Arm strength will need to improve if a transition to the outfield happens in the future. LHP with low ¾ arm slot. Fastballs with ASR at 71-74 and feel for a CH from the same arm slot at 60-64. Showed breaking ball from high ¾ slot that landed for strikes at 61 mph and 1/7 shape.

Catcher Spotlights

DALTON REEVES (C, Lugoff-Elgin, 2019)

LHH catcher with a 6 foot 3 frame. 2.04-2.24 pop time range, with good blocking/receiving skills. Meets the ball out front with soft hands. Tall stance at the plate with high hand set. Steep attack angle produces low line drives. Approach suggests he wants to hit the ball in the middle of the field.

JOSH McSWAIN (C/3B, York Comprehensive, 2020)

Lengthy C/3B at 6 foot 2. Frame will support additional mass with future player development. Present arm strength makes up for some mechanical flaws. Pop time range of 1.90-2.10. Positive attack angle and lofted bat path, wanted to pull the ball in BP as well as in game situations. Swing was long at times but current gap to gap power is present, recorded exit velo of 83 mph.
