SC Uncommitted SR Games Highlights

On Sunday October 7th PBR South Carolina took the field on the beautiful campus of Erksine College to evaluate and showcase some of the top uncommitted 2019 players from across the state. The event saw 19 players showcase their 60 times, exit velocities, home to first times, on field BP, defensive workouts, and 7 innings of live gameplay.

MIF Spotlights -

JAYCOB MANLEY (SS/2B, York Prep, 2019)

5 foot 11, 150 lbs with the skill to play either MIF position. Torso and Shoulders suggest upper body could fill out with future development. Defense is skillful with efficient first step quickness and quality hands. Balanced stance with a short stride to a slightly closed position and simplistic bat to ball approach. Hand position above the shoulder creates steeper bat path creating low line drives (68 mph exit velo).

JACK HEGAN (SS/2B, May River, 2019)

Lengthy MIF with tremendous upside. Combined a 7.18 60 time and 4.38 home/first with an 81 mph INF velocity. Showed quick footwork and athleticism playing himself into a good fielding position and working through the ball on throws to first. Maintains a low athletic fielding position despite his height. Stance is just outside the shoulders with a high hand set, loading down and back into a launch position that creates a positive attack angle. Gap to Gap power is present (Exit velo 82).

WILL JOYNER (2B/RHP, Northwestern, 2019)

5 foot 11, 155 lb second baseman with proportional strength. Solid footwork to the ball and high ¾ arm slot on throws across the infield. Short stride to a closed position and near vertical bat angle at launch. Steep attack angle produces low line drives from gap to gap (Exit Velo 78). Worked from the stretch with a chest high set position and a balance point slightly above the belt. Rotational delivery landed slightly open. FB 70-72 consistently in the lower half of the zone and breaking ball at 60-62.

TyREN TURNER (2B/RHP, South Pointe, 2019)

Athletic frame from the 5 foot 10 middle infielder. Confident hands are good enough to overcome some mechanical issues in the fielding technique. INF velocity recorded at 72 mph. Closed set up with a high stride timing mechanism. Back elbow set at shoulder height produces a flat bat path through the zone. Bat to balls skills produced a solid round of BP with line drives to all fields (Exit velo 82). On the mound the RHP reached a balance point above the belt with a short arm stroke that produced 73-75 mph fastballs and 61-63 mph curveballs. Landed open and cut off the follow through on several pitches. Also showed CH at 64 as a 3rd pitch.

NICHOLAS SOLAS (2B/3B, Nova - FL, 2019)

5 foot 7, 165 lbs with good strength present relative to his frame. Could trend toward the stronger side and make a move to 3rd. Calm footwork in the field and a quick OTT release got the ball out in a hurry (72 mph INF velo). Started from a taller stance at the plate with relaxed elbows and a flatter bat angle. High/quick stride and deep hand load over the back foot synched the lower and upper halves to maximize power. Stride foot landed slightly open and the swing trended toward the long side at times. Barrel did get onto plane early and produced Exit velo of 82 mph.
