Yesterday afternoon Calvert County was treated to a much anticipated matchup between No. 7 Northern and No. 1 Huntingtown.  There was a buzz in the air as fans in attendance were treated to the superb pitching duel between Northern’s Marcus Lee Sang (St. John’s) and Huntingtown’s Ryan Terrents (Towson). Lee Sang came out throwing strikes and quickly retired the side in order striking out two and keeping the energy pumping. Feeding off Lee Sang’s strong start, Josh Johnson doubled to lead off the inning for the Patriots and later scored on a single by Mason Davidson to put them ahead 1-0.

The score would remain 1-0 as both pitchers settled in and really controlled the game until the bottom of the third inning when Northern pushed across another run. Bryce Leslie walked to lead off the inning and Matt Jarman singled to advance Leslie to second. Northern would double their lead later in the inning with another RBI single off the bat of Davidson.

It would take until the fifth before Huntingtown would get their first run. With one out Cy Harwood got the Hurricanes started with a single.  Coach Guy Smith then put Harwood in motion and Terrents helped himself out by executing the hit and run that advanced Harwood to third base. After a walk to Clay Wargo (Coastal Carolina) creating a first and third situation for the Hurricanes, Lee Sang uncorked one for a wild pitch allowing Harwood to score. Lee Sang worked out of the jam and finished the day allowing just the one run on two hits in five innings of work.

Grayson Lewis came in to relieve Lee Sang and worked a clean sixth inning. He would run into trouble however in the seventh as back to back doubles by Harwood and Terrents to lead off the inning tied the game at two. Wargo then singled and just like that Huntingtown had a 3-2 lead.  Joe Mozingo (USC-Aiken) would add the third double of the inning to give Huntingtown one more insurance run and the 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. Using the momentum created by the Hurricanes offense in the top half of the inning, Terrents finished off his complete game by sitting down the Patriots in order. Terrents finished with eight strikeouts, allowing two earned runs on six hits and two walks.

Harwood and Ethan Poore had multiple hits for Huntingtown. On the other side, Northern was led offensively by Jarman and Davidson who were both 2-for-3.

Whats Next: Both teams will be in action again this Friday as Northern travels to Great Mills and Huntingtown travels to Chopticon.
