The Salem Spartans held to a slim lead to defeat the Hidden Valley Titans 6-4 in a non-conference tilt in Roanoke County.

The Titans sent lefty sophomore, Sean Gibbons to the mound who made quick work of the visitors in the first, just tossing only five pitches in his part the frame. Salem right hander, Caleb Lingerfelter followed suit, blanking the Titans in the bottom of the first.

Salem's Joe Quinn knocked a leadoff single to start the second inning, and teammate, Zion Honaker scored Quinn on a clutch two out RBI in the third inning, Salem picked up two more runs, capitalizing on two infield errors and RBI bunt by Trevor Gallagher.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Titans got on the board. Austin Kirkbride's one out walk, a balk by Lingerfelter, and a wild throw to first base, allowed Kirkbride to cross the plate. In the bottom of the fourth, Salem notched another run. Zack Honaker singled and advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on Catcher Matt Wright's single.

The Salem's Honaker brothers started off the sixth with back-to-back singles and lead off, Austin Sowers drove in Zion Honaker. Sowers crossed the plate, minutes later, scored by Quinn's single.

In the bottom of the seventh, down 6-1, Hidden Valley had a lot of work to do. Shortstop, Ryan Kirtbride doubled to open the bottom of the seventh. Will Marston and Justin Williams walked, and Matt Strong was hit by a pitch, scoring Kirtbride. Brian Henry singled and Marston scored. Jordan Culler single to right field scoring Williams, but it was not enough to catch the Spartan's from Salem.

Lingerfelter, was impressive, getting the win on his first start of the year. The junior righthander went six and one third innings allowing two hits with six strikeouts.

Gibbons was also a name to remember, a lefty sophomore with five strikeouts throwing to a tough Salem lineup.

Salem continues to a 6-2 record.
