Saturday Tournament Roundup



Weekends are filled with high school tournaments.  Here is a quick look at some of the results from today's tourneys.

Mike Bernard Memorial in Spring Lake 

St. Joseph won the Mike Bernard Memorial beating Holland West Ottawa 6-5 in first round action, and defeated Hudsonville Unity Christian 15-8 in the second round. St. Joseph is now 16-6 on the year.

Bosma Memorial

East Kentwood beat Forrest Hills Northern in a come-from-behind thriller.  The final was 6-5 in favor of East Kentwood.

Shepherd Invitational
Shepherd won their own tournament with wins over Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart and Newyago.

Tri-County Tournament

Sparta beat Grand Rapids Covenant Christian in an extra-inning affair.  In their first game of the day, Mike Flannery threw a one hitter with eight strike outs in a 7-0 win over Cheboygan.  In the second game, Flannery drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly.

Briggs True-Value Tournament

Its not often you have a triple-header in high school baseball but that is exactly what happened today. Ludington won all three of its games, beating Mason County Central 5-3 in the championship.  Ludington first beat Hart 8-4 and Traverse City West 15-4.

Caro Invitational

Tone Jacobs and Ben Letherer combined for a no hitter in the championship game against Capac.  They first beat Algonac in game one 8-0.
 
Blackhawk Invitational

Hanover-Horton improves to 16-4 on the season and picked up a tournament victory in the process. With wins over Jonesville and Napoleon.

Hudsonville Tournament

Hudsonville hosted a tough group of teams today.  They beat Grand Rapids Christian and Stevenson Lakeshore to win their tournament. Grand Rapids Christian is the No. 1 team in DII.

Jackon Invitational

Dexter won both games they played on Saturday to win the Jackson Invitational.  The Dreadnaughts had a come-from-behind win over Allen Park Cabrini in game one.  Game two saw Jackson face off against the Dreadnaughts with Dexter prevailing 10-0 in the final.  Dexter is now 19-4 on the season.  

Rebel Invitational

Grand Rapids Union went 2-0 on the day.  In the championship game, Federico Pena provided both the offense and the defense.  He threw five innings and had a key double in game two.
