Season Preview: Cabot High School

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

Head Coach: Ronnie Goodwin
High School: Cabot
Conference: 6A/7A East
Mascot: Panthers

PBR: What are your expectations for your team this spring?

Coach Goodwin: I expect us to be very competitive each time we take the field.

PBR: Who is going to be your key contributors on the mound this spring?

Coach Goodwin: We are inexperienced on the mound so it will take a collective effort from a group including Evan Hooper, Eric Larsen, Chase Kyzer, Gavin Tillery, Logan Gilbertson, and Dylan Billingsley.

PBR: For your offense to be effective who do you expect to set the table? Who do you expect to drive in runs?

Coach Goodwin: Evan Hooper, Dylan Bowers, Lee Sullivan, Logan Kirkendoll, Jake Slunder, and Braden Jarnagin could all be possible table setters while we are expecting Tristan Bulice, Landon James, Denver Mullins, Jonathan Latture and Eric Larsen to drive guys in.

PBR: Which Underclassmen do you need to step up and fill a void by last year’s seniors?

Coach Goodwin: We lost 7 starters from the line-up and three senior arms from last year’s team so there are plenty of question marks and opportunities for new faces. Pitching is what the game revolves around so that is the area in which we really need guys to step up and fill roles.

PBR: Who is the team to beat in your conference/ your classification?

Coach Goodwin: It should be very competitive. Jonesboro, NLR, and LR Central all have some baseball tradition and have produced some quality players. Marion finished second in the state in 6A baseball last season and West Memphis has arguably the best pitcher in the state.

PBR: What is your biggest non-conference game and why?

Coach Goodwin: We try to take the approach that all games are equal and respect every opponent we play.

PBR: What tournaments is your team attending this spring?

Coach Goodwin: We will play in the Jacksonville Red Devil Classic and the Central Arkansas Invitational
