JAMESVILLE-DEWITT, FULTON ADVANCE IN CLASS A

Dylan McGee (6 inn.), Casey Kretsch and Will Havens combined to throw a four-hit shutout, and the No. 2 Rams lineup took care of the rest in a 15-2 onslaught of the No. 15 Phoenix Firebirds in Class A.

Kretsch crushed two doubles and walked twice for two RBIs and three runs. Matthew Cappelletti had three hits, two stolen bases, two runs and two RBIs for Jamesville-DeWitt (17-4).

No. 3 Fulton had a bit more trouble, getting pushed by No. 14 Chittenango before shutting the door in the seventh and winning 8-6 on its home field.

The Red Raiders (14-6) benefited from three hits, two doubles and three runs from Cole Botton, and multi-hit efforts from Cody Green, Adam Baldwin and Will Caster. The Bears scored all six of their runs after the fourth inning, led by Wyatt Myers solo home run.

Jamesville-DeWitt plays No. 10 Camden today at 4:30 p.m. Camden scored three unanswered runs in the closing innings to defeat No. 7 East Syracuse Minoa, 8-7, on the road. Matt Bronk and Billy Witzigman each doubled twice for Camden. Bronk, Kaleb Ciani and Nick Melchiore each scored twice.

No. 6 Oswego will travel to Fulton today at 4:30 p.m. The Buccaneers defeated No. 11 Oneida, 4-3, on Tuesday. Joe Wallace allowed three runs in his first two innings, but struck out 10 on the night and handed the game to Mike Bruce, who struck out two in a one-inning save.

Three upsets rounded out Class A in the first round. No. 13 Mexico upset No. 4 Cortland, 8-1, and No. 12 Christian Brothers Academy took down No. 5 Homer, 4-2. CBA will host Mexico today.

No. 9 New Hartford defeated No. 8 Whitesboro, 15-5. New Hartford travels to No. 1 Vernon-Verona-Sherrill today.

 

BISHOP GRIMES WINS, CHALK IN REST OF CLASS B

No. 9 Bishop Grimes took down No. 8 Clinton, 9-1, behind a four-hit, three-RBI night from Trevor Pokines.

Shawn Gashi and Camden Ciotoli each had two RBIs. Chris Mancuso threw a complete game, four-hitter.

No. 4 South Jefferson and No. 5 General Brown each advanced in the first round, setting up a fourth game between the Frontier League rivals today at 4:30 p.m. The Lions defeated the Spartans in the league title game, 4-3, last week.

No. 2 Westhill will host No. 7 Skaneateles and No. 3 Adirondack takes on No. 6 Holland Patent.

 

NOTRE DAME SCORES 30 IN OPENING ROUND UPSET OF CATO-MERIDIAN

Chalk seeding held out in Class C, with the loud exception of No. 12 Notre Dame taking down No. 5 Cato-Meridian, 30-7, on Tuesday.

The Jugglers scored six runs or more in four separate innings. Brian Wojnas and Chris Godlewski each had four hits and four runs. Jayson Maxwell drove in four runs and finished with three hits and three runs. Notre Dame will travel to No. 4 Thousand Islands today.

In other matchups today, No. 1 Pulaski hosts No. 8 Fabius Pompey, No. 3 Immaculate Heart Central plays No. 6 Cooperstown and No. 2 Sauquoit Valley takes on No. 7 Westmoreland.

 

BROOKFIELD, ORISKANY LEAD FIELD IN CLASS D

No. 1 Brookfield will host No. 8 Sackets Harbor, and No. 2 Oriskany plays No. 7 Hamilton in round two of the Class D bracket.

No. 5 Stockbridge Valley travels to No. 4 West Canada Valley following a no-hitter from West Canada Valley’s Michael Zaino in the first round against No. 13 McGraw (Zaino fires No-Hitter).

No. 3 New York Mills, who defeated No. 14 Remsen, 6-1, will battle No. 6 Madison. In a 23-12 barn burner against No. 11 DeRuyter, Gabe Linden finished with five RBIs, four runs and three hits for Madison. Dawson Eckrich had six hits and four RBIs.

 

CLASS AA STARTS TODAY AT 4:30 P.M.

No. 1 Liverpool takes on No. 8 Central Square at 4:30 p.m., and No. 2 Cicero-North Syracuse hosts No. 7 Auburn.

No. 3 Utica Proctor hosts No. 6 Rome Free Academy at 6:00 p.m., and No. 4 West Genesee takes on No. 5 Baldwinsville at 4:30 p.m. The Bees defeated the Liverpool Warriors twice during the regular season, and the winner of Baldwinsville and West Genesee plays Liverpool on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
