Senior Games: Middle Infield Analysis

HUNTSVILLE, TX - Here is the fourth installment of the positional analysis from the Texas Senior Games. This event was loaded with uncommitted talent, and a number of players that will be moving up the 2019 Rankings that we will release next week. Today, we break down the middle infielders. 

Middle Infielders

Connor Jackson, SS/2B, Prosper HS, 2019
At 5-foot-10, 160-pounds, Jackson has a lean, athletic frame, and is a switch-hitter that can handle the bat from both sides of the plate, to go with outstanding footwork at shortstop. From the left side of the plate he starts from a slightly open stance, then loads back smooth with rhythm and his hands work quick through the zone with lag in the barrel and a loose finish. From the right side, his base is slightly wider and he uses a strong top hand to drive the ball to the pull side. At shortstop, Jackson has polished actions as he plays through the ball with quick footwork and rhythm. Clean exchange to the midline his arm works easy from different slots with touch and accuracy, he can make all the plays required by a collegiate infielder.

Tre Armendariz, 3B, Cypress Woods HS, 2019
Armendariz spent a good portion of this past high school sidelined by a four-wheeling accident. But the 6-foot-1, 160-pound, left-handed hitting infielder is back and ready play. Balanced approach during BP, his barrel stays in the zone a long time as he attacks the inside part of the ball on a flat plane with a line drive approach and an exit velocity of 94 mph. Moves really well at shortstop and has a quick first step. Soft hands, clean exchange and rhythm as he plays through the ball. Has the arm strength and fell to stay on the left side of the infield with a top velocity of 86 mph across the diamond.

Gus Witt, 2B/SS, Kilgore HS, 2019
Witt is an athletic, quick-twitch player with a lean-muscular frame at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds. Ran a 6.88 60-yard dash and showed off quick footwork to go with an an accurate arm across the diamond. Smooth actions, quick transition into a short arm swing, plays through the ball with rhythm and tempo. The right-handed hitter starts from a tall, open stance with high hands. Smooth load as he picks up his front foot and strides forward, landing balanced with separation. Twitchy hands create leverage at contact with a loose finish as he transfers his weight. Barrel gets through the zone with relative ease on a flat path. Line drive approach with a top exit velocity of 89 mph.

Pudge Carlisle, 2B/SS, Liberty Hill HS, 2019
Western Texas JC commit. 5-foot-10, 175-pound, lean-muscular, high-waisted frame. The left-handed hitter starts from an open stance, then loads back with a low hanging knee-to-knee load before he strides forward and his hands slide back. Quick hands on a flat path through the zone, hitting off his front foot as he transfer his weight through contact. Line drive approach through the middle of the field with an 81 mph exit velocity. On the infield, Carlisle has quick, fundamental footwork as he plays through the ball. Accurate arm across the diamond  from a ¾ slot with a short stroke.

Logan Thielepape, 2B/SS, Midway HS, 2019
Thielepape has plenty of upside and solid overall skill set, to go with a still developing, high-waisted frame at 5-foot-9, 145-pounds. Long stride runner, posted a 7.05 60-yard dash. Fluid swing with good barrel awareness, Thielepape handles the bat well, starting from an open stance, he loads back smooth with rhythm throughout. Lands balanced with energy in his lower half, quickish hands through the zone with good lag in the barrel and loose hands. Line drive approach through the middle of the field during BP. On the infield, Thielepape has a quick first step, and plays through the ball with good tempo, solid posture, soft hands and clean exchange. Arm works well from different slots and he can play on the run.

Dylan Clark, 2B/SS, Lone Star HS, 2019
Clark has a long-limbed, lean-strong frame at 6-foot-1, 170-pounds. The right-handed hitter starts from a square, neutral stance, then loads back as he triggers his hands with rhythm and takes a short stride. Quick bat through the zone, short inside-out path with present strength as he drops the head to get on plane, driving the ball with gap power and a top exit velocity of 87 mph. Hammered a double to left field during the game. On the infield, Clark has smooth footwork with a quick first step and shows good range to his glove side. Solid glove action, funneling the ball into his throwing motion with a top velocity of 77 mph across the infield.
