Patterson Mill's starting right-handed pitcher Christian Shertzer threw a complete game three-hitter Thursday afternoon against the visiting Kent County Trojans to propel the Huskies into the Sectional Semifinals and a meeting with the No. 1 team in the state of Maryland - Colonel Richardson.

Shertzer never pitched to more than four batters in an inning. He worked quick and got ahead on hitters throughout the game throwing 65% of his pitches for strikes. The sophomore opened the game with four scoreless frames and finished by retiring the side in order in the sixth and seventh.

Patterson Mill opened the scoring in the second with two runs. Nathan Vujanic led off the inning with a five pitch walk, Michael Segreti reached on an error, and both runners advanced to make it second and third when Rey Gutierrez grounded into a fielder's choice. Vujanic crossed home plate two pitches later when the ball snuck out into left field on a back pick attempt by Kent County catcher Donald Forgan. Then with two outs, Caleb Heymann doubled on a line drive down the left field line to plate Gutierrez.

Kent County would cut the lead in half in the 5th when Gary Emory lined one to left field to drive in Dylan Hill but that was all they could muster. The Huskies added two insurance runs in the sixth on a Peyton Celuch suicide squeeze in which Vujanic scored from third and Segreti never broke his stride coming all the way around from second to score with ease.

Shertzer threw 82 pitches and finished the game with five strikeouts. Patterson Mill will travel to Colonel Richardson on Saturday looking for the big upset.
