South Mississippi Fall ID: Positional Player Reports

POPLARVILLE, MS - The South Mississippi Fall ID was held on Saturday, September 23rd at Pearl River CC in Poplarville, MS. This event was an open event that consisted of some of the top prospects from the 2024-2027 classes across all parts of Mississippi. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens during the workout and were able to get numbers and metrics. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Positional Profile: 3B/OF
Body: 6-0, 205-pounds. Strong, durable frame
Hit: RHH. Wide stance with very high hand set Big load and stride. Hands drop into slot during load. Gets separation in hands in stride. Looking to pull with aggression at contact. 66.4 mph bat speed with 7 G's of rotational acceleration.

Nicholas Arnold, Madison Ridgeland Academy (MS), 2024
Positional Profile: OF
Body: 5-8, 175-pounds. Smaller, athletic frame
Hit: RHH. Tall, athletic looking stance with hands slightly inside back shoulder. Easy, controlled load and stride. Slight knee lift. Level bat path with quick hands. Works with the pitch for an all fields line drive approach. 74 mph bat speed with 21 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 96 max exit velocity, averaged 85.2 mph. 294' max distance.
Arm: LH. OF-77 mph. Quick arm action
Defense: Polished look in outfield. Easily approaches ground balls. Fields out front to glove side with accurate arm.

Nelson Barthel, Northwest Rankin (MS), 2026
Positional Profile: C/OF
Body: 5-9, 191-pounds. Solid build
Hit: LHH. Conventional, slighlty open stance. Balanced with normal hand set. Easy, controlled load and stride. Level bat path with quick hands. Works with the pitch for an all fields line drive approach. Big time upside as a hitter! 63.5 mph bat speed with 14 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 92 max exit velocity, averaged 88.5 mph. 335' max distance.
Arm: RH. C-75 mph. OF-89 mph. Loose arm action
Defense: 1.97-2.06 pop times. OF: Developing footwork in outfield. Easily approaches ground balls. Fields out front to glove side with strong accurate arm. Catcher: Strong set up with advanced footwork on throws to 2nd. Very good direction on throws. Advanced body positioning and fundamental approach to blocks and bunts. Solid next level upside.

Hit: RHH. Balanced stance, slightly open, with higher hand set Easy, controlled load and stride. Slight knee lift. Level bat path with quick hands. Works with the pitch for an all fields line drive approach. Upside as a hitter! 63 mph bat speed with 11 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 84 max exit velocity, averaged 74.8 mph. 318' max distance.

Harrison Havard, George County (MS), 2027

Body: 5-10, 165-pounds. Projectable frame
Hit: RHH. Wider, slightly open and balanced stance with high hand set Big load and long stride.Toe tap into stride. Gets separation in hands in stride. Looking to pull with aggression at contact. 61.4 mph bat speed with 8 G's of rotational acceleration.

Arm: RH. C-66 mph. Short, quick arm action
Defense: 2.09-2.19 pop times. Solid set up behind the plate. Still developing though shows good foot work on throws. Loses some direction to 3B on throws to 2B. Strong arm that should get a little better with body maturity. Good body positioning on blocks and bunt coverages
