Spotlight on Outfielder Collin Edwards from Seckman HS

By Charlie Meyer
Missouri Scout/Writer

Collin Edwards of Seckman high school has quietly developed into a solid ball player. Edwards first appeared for Seckman High School during his Sophomore season where he had a remarkable .436 average with three homeruns. Contributing as a Sophomore Edwards helped lead Seckman to a conference title.

Playing three years at the varsity level, Edwards has improved upon his bat at the plate and his overall baseball IQ. Edwards now is becoming more understanding of the game and watching for certain situations to make his move in each game. “Edwards now is noticing what pitchers are trying to do and he is taking what they give him,” said Seckman’s Head Coach Brad Hagedorn.

At the plate Edwards uses a long swing through the zone to create power and pop. Edwards this season has three homeruns and 20 RBIs for Seckman.

Edwards makes his most dangerous mark is on the base path. Edwards uses his 6.9 60 time to steal as many bases as he can. With twenty-four stolen bases so far in three years with only being caught once has shown Edwards speed and knowledge of base running.

Edwards stands as one of the best outfielders in the state and with a velocity from the outfield of 89 mph he makes opposing coaches think twice before sending a runner home.

Wabash Valley will be Edwards next stop in baseball. The outfielder is ready for the next level both physically and mentally. He should be one to watch as he continues to only add to his baseball talent over the next few years.
