2A State Championship Preview:

These games will be played at Kiwanis Park in Salem on Friday, June 13 with the winners meeting in the Championship game at Radford on Saturday, June 14, at 1:00 pm.

Madison County vs. Virginia High, 10:00 am

Madison County has been on an improbable run over the last two weeks. The Mountaineers entered the Conference 35 tournament as the seven seed, upsetting George Mason and Page County before falling in the Conference 35 Championship to Strasburg. The East Regional tournament followed a similar pattern for the Mountaineers, as they upset conference champions East Rockingham and Nandua to earn another shot at Strasburg. Madison County enters the game with a 14-11 record overall.

Virginia High enters the game as the Clinch Mountain Conference Champs and the West Regional Champs. The Bearcats dominated the West Regional tournament, winning their three games by a combined score of 29-3. The Bearcats are 19-5 overall on the season entering the State Tournament.

Randolph-Henry vs. Strasburg, 1:00 pm

Randolph-Henry is the Courthouse Conference champion and the West Region runners-up. The Statesmen recorded wins over James River-Buchanan and Grayson County before running into a strong Virginia offense in a regional tournament that saw the Statesmen’s semifinal game divided over two days and the completion of the semifinals and finals played on back-to-back days due to rain.

Strasburg is the Conference 35 and West Regional champions. The Rams were challenged repeatedly in the Regional tournament, with tough wins over Riverheads and Maggie Walker before winning a championship slugfest over Madison County. The Rams are 20-1 so far this season.
