State Tournament: Semi-FInals 7A

The 7A State Tournament was hosted by Fayetteville and Bentonville High Schools on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This tournament featured some of the top players in the state and the deepest pitching class in recent memory.  

Conway High School 3 vs Fayetteville High School 2

Conway started off the game fast with 2016 OF McCall Dale scoring on a 2015 MIF Jacob Adams RBI Single to left-field, making the score 1-0 in the top of the 1st.

2016 RHP Matt Strickland kept the Purple Dogs off balance in the early going throwing 4 consecutive shout out innings.

Conway Struck again in the 4th when 2018 1B/LHP Jordan Wicks drove in 2017 Cade Tucker with a two out single. The score was 2-0 after 4 innings of play.

Fayetteville scored 1 run in the bottom of the 5th when 2015 MIF Drew Tyler earned a walk with the bases loaded to plate 2015 RHP/DH Walker Powell.

In the top of the 6th Conway scored again, when 2016 C Grayson Pinkett doubled and later scored on a wild pitch.

Fayetteville scratched out a run in the bottom of the 6th when 2015 OF/1B scored on when Powell hit into a double play, making the score the final 3-2.

Tucker closed out the game recording the Purple Dogs in order, striking out the final out.

2016 RHP Matt Strickland pitched 4.3 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 1. 2017 Cade Tucker picked up the save itching 2.6 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 3.

Conway advances to the 7A State Championship Game at 3:00 PM Friday, May 22nd, at Baum Stadium.

Bentonville High School 3 vs Har-Ber High School 1

Bentonville HS received a big day from 2016 RHP Drew Young who pitched 6.66 innings allowing just one run, while scattering 6 hits and striking out 6 Wildcat hitters.

Har-Ber HS scored a run in the top of the 2nd when 2015 OF Zach Stanley drove home 2015 INF Caleb Grey on a groundball to second base. After that Young help them at bay.

The one run looked to be enough for the first 5 innings as 2016 RHP Michael King held Bentonville scoreless.

In the bottom of the 6th scored 3 runs, on 2 hits with and 2 walks. The big blow came when Braden Norden scored on 2016 C Matt Bratspies fielder’s choice for the go ahead run.

Har-Ber challenged in the 7th when 2015 C Spencer Lloyd and OF Tyler Blackston singled to CF but the Tigers reliever Preston Rosales came in and induced a groundball to record the save.

Bentonville will join Conway in the finals on Friday.

Conway will attempt to win their 3rd State Title. Their previous titles were in 1989 and 2011.

Bentonville will attempt to when their second title, with the first coming in 2002.
