Team Preview: Num. 11 Sumrall

Ronald Sims
Mississippi Scouting Director

The Mississippi high school season kicks off on February 26, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 29, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

Outlook

The Sumrall Bobcats have their eyes set on another strong season in 2018. Coach Larry Knight's Bobcats won 23 games in 2018 and look to go even deeper in 2019. Headlining the lineup will be 2019 Southern Mississippi signee, Billy Garrity who is coming off an impressive junior senior where he hit .341 while driving in 27 runs. Look for Pearl River CC signee, Graham Crawford to hold down the duties behind the plate and work with the pitching staff as they look to solidify the rotation. The Bobcats will look to Zane Berry, Dannis Jackson and Mason Story to have more impactful roles this season as they combined to drive in 46 runs in 2018.

Leading the Bobcats on the mound will be Halen Sanford and Kross Sivley. Sanford is coming off a junior season where he logged over 40 inning with 45 strikeouts, while sophomore Sivley will be a big piece to this years roster as he recorded over 50 inning on the mound as a freshman with 62 strikeouts.

With the culture Coach Knight has built combined with fundamental defensive play as well as the ability to drive in runs, the Bobcats should have a chance to make a deep playoff run in 2019.
