Team Texas: Game One Recap

Brandon Gowins
Texas Scouting Director

EMERSON, GA - Day 2 of the Future Games is in the books after Team Texas faced off against Team Indiana. Both sides trotted out quality arms, displayed good defense and caught some barrels over the eight innings, ultimately ending in a 4-4 tie. Below, we take a look at some of the impact players from Team Texas.

WORKOUT DAY LEADERBOARDS

Nick Wesloski RHP / OF / McKinney Boyd, TX / 2025

The 6 '3 righty from Mckinney Boyd HS got the start for Texas and was sharp for the duration of his outing. He went 3 scoreless innings displaying a starter upside.  He features a fastball that sits in the upper 80’s that topped out at 90 on the night. He sinks it well at the bottom of the zone and is tough to elevate.  His slider was sharp as well. He was 80-81 with it, and showed quality depth. He also threw a 82-83 mph changeup that he threw to both righties and lefties. He has a lot of confidence in the pitch and can generate swings and misses in the zone with it.  Overall, it was a big time performance with a lot of eyes on him.

Mason Murphy RHP / 1B / Ridge Point, TX / 2025

Murphy didn’t have his best command on the night, but the 6’5 230 lb. righty showed high end stuff. The fastball sits in the upper 80’s and touched 91. It is a high spin fastball that saw him get over 2700 rpm’s that gives it a lot of life in the zone. He also flashed a change that had a lot of movement and can be a put away pitch. His slider shows promise as well. Murphy has an XXL frame, and moves well for his size. As the mechanics continue to tighten up, Murphy could offer as much upside as any arm in Texas for the 2025 class.

Jarret Halter SS / 2B / Pleasant Grove, TX / 2025

Halter came in after playing the field and looked great in his 3 innings on the mound.  He knew how to really pitch and did a great job of sequencing his pitches. His fastball was in the low 80’s, topping out at 85 mph. and he did a good job of commanding it to both sides. He threw a quality breaking ball that he had really good command of.  He could drop it in for a strike and showed the ability to bury it when he was ahead. Halter showed a lot of moxie and with a frame that projects, he offers a lot of two way potential

Brady Janusek OF / 3B / LIBERTY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, TX / 2025

Janusek won MVP honors for the game with his 3-3 performance that saw him fall a triple shy of the cycle.  He also added a swiped bag to cap the night off. Janusek is an impressive looking athlete, standing 6’3 195, and plays with a lot of bounce.  There are loud tools across the board, and he showed them off last night. It will be fun to see how Janusek follows up his impressive first 2 days.

Carter Rutenbar C / 3B / Midlothian Heritage, TX / 2025

Rutenbar had some of the best BP at Lakepoint during Wednesday’s and the LHH catcher from Midlothian got off some good swings last night. He had one hit, which was a backside LD 1B that was 97 mph off the bat. Every swing Rutenbar takes has a purpose and bad intentions.  He can handle velocity and showed the ability to adjust to the breaking stuff. Rutenbar has had a great start to his week here at Lakepoint.

Blake Beheler 1B / 1B / George Ranch, TX / 2025

Beheler has a physical presence in the box, and the big RHH from Houston showed his offensive potential with a smoked LD for a 1B in last night’s game.  Beheler has a short swing for his size and doesn’t have to sell out for power. He is also a good athlete who  runs right around a 7.0 60. Beheler has some big time raw power, and profiles to do a lot of damage at the next level. Beheler also looked really good around the bag at 1st base.

Mitchell Morton C / 3B / Plano West , TX / 2025

Morton didn’t get a hit in the game, but he was a star behind the plate.  He threw 3 runners out in the first 3 innings and had in game pop times as low as 1.87.  He is an elite defender behind the plate, who makes his staff better.  He can receive, block, and he can really really throw.  It was fun seeing a catcher take that much pride in his craft.
